The release of the first Andreanna Marsupial movie was surely a demarcation point in the career of Brad Radby.
Due to the unprecedented popularity of the book series, it is not hyperbolic to say that the release of the film was an international event, and that the director of it became no less than a worldwide celebrity.
Box-office success aside, the various controversies surrounding the production itself made the vast fan base, as well as the mainstream media, salivate.
Even those unfamiliar with the source material found the ever-escalating battle between Andreanna Marsupial author Stephenie Piperbraum and movie director Brad Radby a delicious and gossip-fueled storyline.
No less than Times Magazine saw its best-selling issue of 2000 adorned with the headline, “Real or Fake? How Andreanna Marsupial’s Tail Is Changing Hollywood Forever”.
Add the special effects issues to both parties’ public squabbling over Radby’s decision to cast Josh Hartnett as Handsomar Horsebuck, and a gossip columnist’s dream was born.
(Call it irony, fate, or coincidence, but Ms. Piperbraum’s preferred Handsomar casting was none other than an unknown actor by the name of…Brian Spathe.)
Regardless, all eyes were now on Brad Radby. The next two years of his career proved interesting indeed, as he directed no less than an impossible eight motion pictures, set a massive box office record, and had a public falling-out with his self-described muse, Bruce Willis.
Fame, as Brad himself later said, can be “so gay and stuff wtf”.
