BRAD RADBY’S SYNOPSIS
At the start of the movie, Will Ferrell is a big-time man-child architect, who everyone likes because he is loud and in love with himself. His new boss, who is Anna Faris, wants to change things in the architect store, and Will is upset, because she’s a woman and has on a tight tank top!
Part of the big change is that Anna hires more big-time man-child architects, who are Steve Carell and Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd and Danny McBride, and then the instant rivalry starts.
Will gets fired when a building he drew falls down, because he put a water slide on it, and now he is down on his luck. He moves into a box the next day and cries like a baby, and it’s so funny.
Later, Will says wacky things to his mom about how he hates everyone and that life is not fair, and his mom is Cher, and she tells him he’s a dummy. After a joke where he sleeps in his old little kid bed, Will decides to go back to the basics of architecting, and that means learning about drawing buildings from scratch!
There are lots of jokes about Will being out of shape, and breaking pencils, and eating too many funny pancakes to get strong, and painting blue striped war paint on his face, and he sings a song with Cher during this.
Will has a pet wombat.
Then comes the big showdown, and whoever has the best drawing is going to win Best Building of the Year. Will uses his new skills to beat everyone, and that’s because he finally learned how to put the water slide on right.
As the credits roll, everyone makes wiener jokes and Will does a fat guy dance.
BRAD RADBY’S PRODUCTION NOTES
1) Like in that one scene where they’re having trash talk about being architects, Steve and Seth and Paul and Will and Danny made all that up right there, and that’s improv actoring.
2) It was so funny and that’s why that scene is 45 minutes long, and also why I went to lunch with Barky while they had fun making that one.
3) The wombat was special effects and also real, but I don’t remember which parts were which because they wouldn’t let me be in charge of that.
4) Like when I was making the movie I thought blunder was another word for volcano, but then I saw the movie and it wasn’t that, so I don’t even think there’s a meme at all. wtf
5) When Anna was in her tank top outfit, Paul was like, “Hey, look at Seth’s wiener!” and then pointed at Seth’s wiener and everybody laughed except me. :(
